Be Brave for Allegiant (Book Review)

The title is not merely a play on lines from the series. It is a warning. A request. A tip to prepare for what comes ahead while reading Allegiant. In Allegiant, the third book of the Divergent series, the truth is finally revealed. And we also say goodbye to a character who has been with us since the beginning. (SPOILER ALERT.)

  • Title: Insurgent
  • Author: Veronica Roth
  • Genre: science fiction, Dystopian
  • Pages: 525 pages
  • Series: The Divergent Series

"The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

I really don't like it when the main character dies. It's like they're a part of you you can't let go of, not after getting really attached to them throughout the story. But putting the deaths aside, Allegiant is a good read. Notice the use of the word "good" instead of "great". In my humble opinion, I am not giving this book five stars. In fact, four stars is already too generous. The overall atmosphere of Allegiant just went downhill from the action-packed thrills Insurgent gave me. There were many dull moments and I didn't expect dull moments after reading Insurgent. But the story was actually more interesting this time around, since the world outside the fence was revealed. And not only the world, but the things people are doing in that world. And for this book, it's them against that world.

To sum it all up, Allegiant is not that bad a read, although I was really disapppointed. But maybe I just had that stereotypical notion that there would be happy endings for Allegiant. So for my second and final tip, try not to expect for happy endings. Not all books end with those. That's what makes them unique and thrilling. Better yet, expect for the worst and let the book surprise you.

Here's a hint. A main character will die, and its name starts with a T and ends with an S. Not that much of a help, huh? Since there's Tris, and there's Tobias.

On behalf of me finishing Allegiant, you can now watch the Divergent movie trailer here! The movie will hit theaters 21 March.

Be brave,
