Be Transformed by Divergent! (Book Review)

Science Fiction. Romance. Action. Suspense. Unexpected twists and turns. If you crave for all of them, then this book is definitely for you! Watch as these things intertwine and work with each other to give you one heck of a book! Great. Now I sound like an obnoxious salesman. But I do mean what I said. This book is one of those books of which you promise to read just one last chapter before finally going to bed, but end up reading the next chapter because the previous one won't let you sleep without knowing what would happen next.

  • Title: Divergent

"ONE CHOICE decides your friends.
  ONE CHOICE defines your beliefs.
ONE CHOICE determines your loyalties - forever.
 ONE CHOICE can transform you."

I've been having a lot of trouble, lately, on deciding whether or not I will read the Divergent Series, since one of my New Year's Resolutions was to read less mainstream books. And I have read this book sort of by accident. Just last week, when I opened my Aldiko book app by accident, I saw Divergent on my bookshelf. I don't know how it got there, but I read it anyway. Since many have already read it, and its one of the bestsellers today, I see no reason to not read it.

I quickly got hooked to the story, mainly because of the cliffhangers that would not let me put the book down. Although, I did sense a few similarities to some of the books I have read, namely the Hunger Games Series and The Lorien Legacies.
Some of its plot styles are close to The Hunger Games, like  the hero being a teenage girl who becomes skilled at combat, society factions, and the occasional power-hungry tyrant. And some names are similar to other books I have read, like Four from  I Am Number Four. and speaking of IANF, it's got this teenage sci-fi thing, too. But these similarities won't bother your reading. Especially if you haven't read the latter books.

Divergent is a book not like other books, I suppose, because you can transform from it. The story is set in a city that is divided into five factions, each being known for a ruling quality. Selflessness for Abnegation, bravery for Dauntless, peace-loving for Amity, truthfulness for Candor, and intelligence for Erudite. It may not seem visible but by reading this book you may get to know your own strengths and weaknesses by knowing about the different factions and their qualities. It can help you see what qualities you are good at, and what qualities you need to further develop. And by balancing these qualities do you make a good person out of yourself. This is what I love most about Divergent.

I recommend this book to everyone who loves a good read, although I specifically recommend it to those who want to know more about themselves. And this time would be a good time to read it since the film adaptation of Divergent will hit theaters this March! I am now done with the second book, Insurgent, and am now reading the last book of the trilogy, Allegiant, so expect book reviews about those two books soon! And I almost forgot, this series is quite the killer. Literally! Expect to read about lots of deaths, and don't think that a character will last until the end of the story, because some just don't. Adios!

May you be as brave as the Dauntless,
